TURN YOUR VEHICLE INTO A WI-FI HOTSPOT
SYNC® with MyLincoln Touch™ turns your WiFi-enabled smartphone into an internet access point for your passengers.
READ MOREThe lane keeping system uses a camera mounted behind the windshield’s rear view mirror to monitor road lane markings and detect unintentional drifting toward the outside of a lane. If the camera detects an impending unintentional drift, the system will use the steering system and the instrument cluster display to alert and/or aid you to stay in your lane.
The lane keeping system will only become available above 40 mph (64 km/h). It will work as long as the camera can detect at least one lane marking. However, the system may not function if the camera is blocked or if there is damage to the windshield.
When aid mode is on and the system detects no steering activity for a short period, the system will alert you to put your hands on the steering wheel. The system may also identify a light grip on the steering wheel as hands-off driving.
To switch the system on, please find location of the system switch in your vehicle’s Owner Guide. The system’s on or off setting will be stored until it is manually changed again. The system can be temporarily suppressed at any time by the following intentional driver activities:
Quick braking
Fast acceleration
Use of the turn signal indicator
An evasive steering maneuver
If the system detects a MyKey, the system will automatically turn on and default to alert mode.
To view or adjust the system’s optional settings menus, see General Information. The system will store the last-known selection for each of these settings, so you will not need to readjust them each time you turn on the system.
Adjusting the mode setting allows you to enable and disable features by choosing between alert only mode, aid only mode, or alert + aid mode.
Alert only mode – Provides a steering wheel vibration when the system detects an unintended lane departure into the zones highlighted in the diagram above.
Aid only mode – Provides an assistance steering torque input toward the lane center when the system detects an unintended lane departure into the zones highlighted in the diagram above.
The intensity setting affects the intensity of the steering wheel vibration used for the alert and alert + aid modes. This setting does not affect the aid mode. You can choose between low, medium, and high vibration intensity.
When you switch on the system, an overhead graphic of a vehicle with lane markings will be visible in the information display. If you select aid mode when you switch on the system, a separate white icon will also appear, or in some vehicles, arrows will display with the lane markings. When you switch off the system, the lane marking graphics will not display. While the system is on, the color of the lane markings will change to indicate the system’s status.
Indicates that the system is temporarily unable to alert or aid you on the indicated side(s). This may be because:
Your vehicle is travelling slower than the activation speed.
The turn indicator is active.
Your vehicle is in a dynamic maneuver.
The lane markings in the camera field of view are poor or nonexistent.
The camera is obscured or unable to detect outside lane markings due to environmental conditions (significant sun angles, shadows, snow, heavy rain or fog), traffic conditions (following a large vehicle that is blocking or shadowing the lane), or vehicle conditions (poor headlamp illumination).
See Troubleshooting for additional information.
Indicates that the system is available and ready to alert or aid you on the indicated side(s).
Indicates that the system is providing or has just provided a lane keeping aid intervention.
Indicates that the system is providing or has just provided a lane keeping alert warning.
Possible Causes
Vehicle speed outside of the operational range for the system
Sun shining directly into the camera lens
Quick intentional lane change
Driving too close to the lane marking. The system will become available again as soon as the driver returns to the center of the current lane.
Driving at high speeds in curves
Previous feature activation occurred within the last second
Ambiguous lane markings, such as those in construction zones
Rapid transition from light to dark or vice versa
Sudden offset in lane markings
ABS or traction control activation
Camera blockage due to dirt, grime, fog, frost or water on the windshield
Driving too close to the vehicle in front of you
Transitioning from no lane markings to lane markings or vice versa
Standing water on the road
Faint lane markings, such as partial yellow lane markings on concrete roads
Lane width too narrow or too wide
Camera was not calibrated after a windshield replacement
Driving on tight or uneven roads
Possible Causes
High cross winds
Large road crown
Rough roads, grooves or shoulder drop offs
Heavy and/or uneven loading of the vehicle or improper tire inflation pressure
The suspension has been modified or the tires have been exchanged, for example, to replace them with snow tires
Lane Keeping System does not control steering. Driver Assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle.
They system may not be able to function in cold and severe weather conditions, or if the sensor becomes blocked. Rain, snow, spray and large contrasts in lighting can all limit sensor performance. Depending on road conditions, the system will not operate if the sensor cannot track the road lane markings.
Do not carry out windshield repairs in the immediate area surrounding the sensor.
