To use SYNC® 3 phone features—such as making a call or receiving a text message—you must first connect, or "pair" your Bluetooth®-enabled phone. Pairing is what allows Bluetooth devices to communicate securely with each other.

Please note that SYNC 3 can make and receive calls using only one paired phone at a time.27 ,48

See how to pair your phone with SYNC 3 in this video.

Before you start

There are a few things you should do before starting step 1:

  1. Switch on your vehicle and radio, and turn on your mobile phone.

  2. Enable your phone’s Bluetooth feature, and make your phone discoverable.

  3. On your vehicle’s SYNC 3 touchscreen, press “Add Device.”

(If you’ve already paired a phone, SYNC displays the name of that device. If your screen asks you to connect a phone, make sure Bluetooth is turned on for your paired device. If not, follow the next steps.)

  4. Scan for devices on your mobile phone, until SYNC is found.

  5. Select SYNC on your mobile phone, which will then display a six-digit PIN.

Note: If your device prompts you to enter a PIN, it does not support Secure Simple Pairing. To pair, enter the PIN displayed on the touchscreen. Skip the next step.

  6. When prompted on your phone’s display, confirm that the PIN displayed by SYNC matches the PIN displayed on your phone.

  7. The SYNC display will then indicate that pairing is successful.

  8. Next, SYNC displays 911 Assist status.
(This feature is “Off” by default; press “Off” to turn the feature on.)

You also have the option to turn off “Auto-Download Contacts.”
(This feature is “On” by default; press “On” to turn the feature off.)

  9. Press the “Finish” button.
